Welland Jackfish take series lead with Game 5 victory

The Welland Jackfish scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning on Sept. 11 to win 5-2 and push the London Majors to the edge of elimination in their Canadian Baseball League semi-final.

Gianfranco Morello singled home to of the three runs to put the Jackfish up and then Jackfish pitcher Erik Johnson shut the door in the bottom of the ninth.

The Majors had fought back to tie the game 2-2 after Welland scored twice in the top of the first.

A Maikol Escotto double and a Trent Lenihan single did the trick and deadlocked the game for the next five innings.

London pitcher Skyar Janisse took the loss. Johnson picked up the win for Welland.

The Jackfish now lead the best-of-7 series 3-2 and will have a chance to win it on Saturday night at home.

If the Majors can force a Game 7 it would be played on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 6:05 pm at Labatt Park.
