If your team name starts with a "St." then you are off to a hot start in the Greater Ontario Hockey League
The St. Marys Lincolns and the St. Thomas Stars and St. Catharines Falcons have hit the ice flying in the early going of the 2026-27 GOHL season.
If you take a quick peek at the top of the GOHL's Western Conference standings you will find the Lincolns in a similar at or near the top. The Stars have risen to sit right with them which has built on something that began last year when Jason Williams took over as head coach.
The two teams are great representatives of two ways to win in hockey.
St. Mary's has an electric offence led by GOHL leading scorer Ryan Hodkinson who has 24 points in 10 games. Six Lincolns players are averaging better than a point per game.
St. Thomas has the best defence in the league to this point. They have given up just 17 goals in nine games and are led in net by Londoner and GOHL Goaltender of the Month for September, Dylan Durno.
Durno is now joined by 17-year old Charlie Weiss who began the year with the London Knights and earned the start in goal on opening night for the Knights.
In the Eastern Conference the St. Catharines Falcons are keeping the "St." name rolling as they are off to another great start and sitting at 9-2.
That 9-2 record only has the Falcons in fourth place at the moment.
The top of the East is a crazy place right now with both Caledonia and Cambridge at 9-1 and Fort Erie sitting at a perfect 9-0.
The Stratford Warriors don't have a "St." at the start of their name but they do find themselves locked in the "Who is hot?" conversation after reeling off five straight wins.
In arguably the biggest game of the week (Oct. 12-18) the Warriors will host the Stars on Friday, Oct. 16 at William Allman Memorial Arena.
